MAYBE we have lost the plot, but could someone kindly explain the logic behind the creation of a verge on the western side of the section of Green Hill Tavistock. Perhaps it was intended to prevent overtaking on this extremely busy stretch of road but has consideration been given to the disadvantages of this recent action? In its present state following a heavy period of rain the road will be covered in mud which, in itself, will provide a serious traffic hazard, bearing in mind the steep gradient of this particular section of the hill. Secondly, has any thought been given to the fact that a further dog fouling area has been provided? Then of course, there is the major question of the maintenance factor. Without wishing to harp back to the controversial Whitchurch Gateway, maintenance in that area is very neglected, so are we going to experience similar problems in Green Hill now this scheme has been implemented? If the intention was to prevent overtaking, surely a more economical solution could have been white lines on the western side of the area concerned, or perhaps the provision of road humps which would eliminate the maintenance aspect, because it has to be said this is quite a dangerous stretch of road and, in the interests of safely, speed should be controlled at all times especially as the extremely busy Mount Tavy Road is approached. As we and many other regular users are concerned, we feel this verge has created more problems than previously, but maybe we have missed the original intention for this particular stretch of highway.
