A YOUNG boy from Chillaton met a famous artist last weekend when Tavistock Picture Framing Gallery hosted a popular art exhibition. Art lover William Taynton-Young, aged seven, who attends Tavistock Primary School, went to the exhibition with his parents on Saturday. William's father Neal said: 'As soon as we arrived William took out his pad and pen, sat on the floor of the gallery and started drawing one of Rozanne Bell's paintings. Rather than stop him, the gallery owner encouraged him by taking him to meet the artist who had arrived to sign pieces of her work. She then gave him a five minute art lesson, and chatted with him about how she uses resin to finish her pictures and give them a shine.' William was captivated and watched attentively while she added some finishing touches to one of her paintings of West Street in Tavistock. William said: 'She showed me how she draws people. She does it just like me, she draws a stick man, but she puts clothes and hats on hers, I don't though.' William, who was further inspired by watching the artist sign more than 50 paintings that were sold on the day, signed his picture and presented it to the artist as a gift. Rosanne Bell said: 'It is really encouraging to see someone so young interested in art. I will hang William's picture in my studio — it's lovely.' Gallery owner Rik Hawkins said: 'We were bowled over by the response we had on Saturday. We sold more than 50 paintings on the day and during the days preceding the event. We met six couples who had travelled considerable distances to come to Tavistock and see Rozanne's newest work. One couple from Essex made a 500 mile roundtrip to meet the artist this weekend and snap up another piece of her work to add to their 10-strong collection.'
