NORTH Devon Wheelers had three members in action at the Southern area cyclo-cross championship at Exeter racecourse last Sunday. After the previous week?s unfavourable course the riders were pleased to be on a proper cyclo-cross course which had a good mix of technical and fast sections and proved a good test for one of the largest and strongest field?s to race on a south west event. Of the three Wheelers entered it was Steve Sage who finished highest, but for him it was a case of what might have been after having to stop three times to fix an unshipped chain, at one point he was in last position so rode extremely well to be able to battle back to fifteenth place. For the first time this season Dave Lugger had a puncture free ride and was able to finish the event on his own bike! In doing so he rode to a very respectable nineteenth position. Lee Bradley was the other North Devon Wheeler to ride the hour long event and his incident free ride rewarded him with 24th place. The Wheelers? next competitive outing will be this weekend at the final round of the South West series at Marjons college in Plymouth.
