TAVISTOCK?S Artframe Gallery is donating a Rolf Harris limited edition print to the tsunami appeal. Proprietors Sally and Harry Eves will donate all the proceeds from the sale of Rolf?s ?The Persistence of Dreams? to the appeal. This is one of a handful of Rolf Harris prints still remaining for sale in the annual exhibition and it can be purchased, together with the rest, at the Duke Street gallery at a 20 per cent discount price. n A beautiful wooden handmade plate is being put up for raffle by a Tavistock business to raise funds for the appeal. The plate, which measures around 20 inches across, is made of burr wood and can be seen at Yew Turn in Church Lane. Raffle tickets costing £1 each are available from the shop, with all proceeds being donated to the appeal fund. l A Tavistock restaurant will next week put on a spread in aid of the tsunami appeal. The Ganges in West Street is holding a fundraising buffet lunch and dinner on Monday, January 17, from which all profits will be donated to the disaster fund. Staff at the restaurant will be donating their time for the event, which starts at noon and finishes at 10pm. A spokesman for the Ganges said there would be ?plenty of good food? and he hoped as many people as possible would come and enjoy a meal for a good cause. The cost of the meal is £10 per head ? for further information, call the Ganges on 01822 616731. n A disco, bring and buy and coffee afternoon are being organised by pupils at Princetown Primary School in aid of the appeal. Year 6 pupils will be running the disco for pupils at the school at lunchtime on Wednesday, January 19. This will be followed by the bring and buy and coffee afternoon for parents at 3pm. Headteacher Lynne Lowden said the fundraising had been the children?s idea. ?They felt genuinely moved by the disaster. One pupil said it was at a time when they felt they had so much at Christmas, and the pictures of the disaster were quite a devastating moment for them.? Donations of anything saleable for the bring and buy will be welcomed. l A quiz night in aid of the appeal will be held at South Zeal Victory Hall tomorrow (Friday). The event is for teams of up to four people and the question master will be Jim Goodwin of the King?s Arms quizzes. A raffle and refreshments will be available, although contestants will need to bring their own alcohol. Teams need to pay £6 to enter the quiz - although larger donations will be accepted - and all contestants should be at the hall at 7.40pm for an 8pm start. The auction ? which is being organised by Molly Bickell from Brentor ? will take place at The Royal Standard in Mary Tavy on January 27 at 8pm. Messrs Woolcocks will conduct the auction. Molly would welcome the donation of any presents people would like to give, together with promises of time or services. Fifty per cent of the proceeds will go to Shelter Box and the remainder to the DEC appeal. The concert will feature a mixture of sacred and secular music from early music to contemporary. It takes place at South Molton Parish Church this Sunday, January 16, at 7pm. Tickets will be available on the door priced £5 with all proceeds going to the appeal, refreshments will also be available. n A day of yoga is being held in Tavistock this weekend, to raise money for the disaster appeal. The event is being held in the Guide Hall on Sunday January 16 and is being organised by yoga teacher Sonja Armstrong. Sonja said: ?What we will be doing is running the day with hourly yoga sessions, finishing with a meditation at about 5.30pm. There will be four or five yoga teachers ? we will be giving our services free and we are asking people to come along and made a donation for the appeal.? There will be a variety of yoga styles during the day, some gentle, some more advanced ? tea and coffee will be provided. The sale will be held in the Nicholls Hall on Saturday February 5th, starting at 10am. Maggie Calvert, organiser of the event, said: ?We are looking for people to take tables at the sale ? I am sure there are lots of people who want to do some clearing out after Christmas. ?We will be running cake stalls and a raffle and I?m hoping to do a soup lunch, with all profits from the event going to the appeal. ?Not everyone can afford to give money, but they might like to bake a cake or come along to the sale.? Tables at the sale will cost £5 ? there will be a small entrance fee. The band, plus special guests Out to Grass, will be playing at Callington Town Hall on Friday January 28. For more information, call 01822 833800. l More than 120 black bin bags were distributed to people by scouts in Tavistock?s Bedford Square last Saturday, to be filled with supplies to send out to areas affected by the tsunami. Volunteers are collecting the bags of donations at the scout hut in Pixon Lane every day this week, between 6pm and 9pm. Items required include tents, towels, bedding, milk powder suitable for babies, infants and adults, dry foods, baby bottles, bandages, plasters and cotton wool.
