REFERENCE the article (January 27) regarding the special swimming sessions recommended by Tavistock doctors for patients, may I say that I have benefited from such advice from my own doctor.
I broke my leg on holiday in Austria and when I had recovered from this I was unable to walk any distance afterwards.
My doctor suggested that I should swim as much as possible. This is already one and a half years ago. During that time I have attended Meadowlands at least three times every week, and have been swimming as much as possible, and still do.
Particularly as I was unable to walk very far due to the fall and my age, I think swimming has kept me fit and I believe the recommended advice to swim as much as possible by Tavistock doctors together with the willingness to help from the authorities in Meadowlands is a wonderful idea, and I am sure people will benefit from it, as I have done.
May I add that I want to thank the manager and all the staff for their kindness and help, which they have given me at all times generously. That help and assistance aids me to recover and is, in fact, my lifeline.
