THE Dartmoor Society will be holding its 13th debate later this month, entitled 'What Future for Dartmoor's Woodlands?'.
The day, open to all, is intended as a celebration of Dartmoor's woodlands and an opportunity to discuss their future as sustainable resources.
A field trip to Yarner Wood, England's first national nature reserve, will explore modern management of both the natural and cultural environment.
Dr Tom Greeves, chairman of the Dartmoor Society, said: 'Our Dartmoor woodlands are some of our most precious resources, teeming with wildlife and plants, but also harbouring evidence of human activity from prehistoric times onwards. Some also have the potential for supplying sustainably managed timber, or being the home of dedicated communities practising a sustainable lifestyle.'
The event will take place at the Dolphin Hotel, Bovey Tracey and Yarner Wood on Saturday October 23, from 9.45am to 5.30pm.
Prior booking is essential and will cost £15 for members and £17 for non-members, which includes refreshments, buffet lunch and coach transport to and from Yarner Wood. To book, send names, addresses and cheques payable to 'The Dartmoor Society' to PO Box 38, Tavistock, Devon PL19 0XJ by October 16.
