ONE hates to find fault with such a new venture as the Okehampton Leisure Centre, particularly as it is laid out so attractively. However, the planning of the swimming pool leaves much to be desired.
We are told that Okehampton is one of the fastest growing towns in Devon and consequently our school population is growing rapidly. What a pity that with the demise of the old swimming pool they will lose all chance to dive as the new pool, only 25 metres in length, is too shallow to allow safe diving.
No chance therefore to emulate our Olympic gold medallists in this event. In fact no chance to be taught diving at all. So, will it be standing starts for future swimming sports?
