TRADERS in Tavistock are welcoming people to town to spend money during the Totally Locally Fiver Fest which begins today (Monday) and runs until June 26.

Independent traders and eateries in Tavistock are offering deals for £5 — why not pop into the Tavistock Times office today to see a full list.

Janna Sanders from Tavistock BID said: ‘Fiver Fest is a great way to highlight what little you need to spend in town to make a difference to your local economy and it couldn’t come at a better time as businesses seek to bounce back from the impact of Covid-19.

‘If every adult in Tavistock spent just £5 per week in their local independent shops and businesses, it would mean £2.6 million per year going directly into our local economy. Which can lead to more jobs, a better high street, a stronger economy and a nicer place to live. Makes you think, doesn’t it?!’

She added: ‘We want to highlight the importance of shopping “offline” and of shopping locally. YouGov research has shown that 59% of shoppers have used more local shops to support them during lockdown. Many of our businesses really stepped up to continue providing services during that time, for which we were very grateful, and we shouldn’t forget that. The message is simple: #supportlocal, explore and enjoy all the town has to offer.’
