HAVING read the future plans for parking in Tavistock, I came to the conclusion that nobody on any council gives a thought to disabled drivers.
They are the very people who need to be able to park near the shops in order to walk and carry shopping the shortest distance possible to and from their cars. Anyone walking along the main street would see the number of people with walking sticks, zimmer frames, wheel-chairs etc, and there are very few disabled parking places. They are always taken, quite often in the summer by able-bodied tourists' 4x4 cars.
In my opinion, one side of the street should be all disabled parking, but I am aware that will never happen. And, now the county council want to change the space by Fashion Direct into a loading bay. At the moment, it provides three extra parking spaces for disabled parking holding a blue badge as they are allowed to park there on double yellow lines.
Could I suggest that, if the county council go ahead with this plan, it provides at least three further disabled spaces in the town centre? Let the able-bodied walk from the car park!
If it becomes any more difficult to park, it will be easier for people to shop at Morrisons where there are two complete rows of disabled space.
