This weekend saw a busy and very successful 24 hours for Tavistock Athletic Club's top female athlete Jo Meek as she took on the challenge of two races in consecutive days.

On Friday she took part in the Carnival six mile race at Chudleigh in East Devon. A tough race saw overall victory go the visiting James Baker from Chichester with Tavistock's own record holder, Adam Holland, runner-up.

Not far behind in 17th place and heading her nearest challenger home for leading lady by almost a minute, Jo finished the first half of her challenge.

The next day she raced in the demanding Haytor Heller off-road race near Ashburton. The six miler, which starts below Haytor Rock is run across rugged, open moorland, woodland and includes a stream crossing.

Tavistock runners featured again in the overall race with Nigel Jenkins and Chris Eastaugh taking top 20 positions and second and third in the male 45 age category.

Jo Meek produced a magnificent run, finishing as first lady, this time two minutes ahead of her nearest challenger and completing a superb double.
