OLD computers, printers and overhead projectors were just some of the broken or unwanted electrical items handed in by West Devon businesses at a waste amnesty in Tavistock.

West Devon Borough Council and WasteCare organised the event at council's offices at Kilworthy Park last week.

Businesses often end up paying to off-load electrical waste but the amnesty was a chance for local firms to get rid of the stuff for free. Five cages of items were handed in weighing just over a tonne.

The waste will now be recycled within the UK in a regulated environment where data security is a priority.

WasteCare provides a free collection service of electronic waste from businesses throughout Devon and can be contacted on 0800 091 000.
