ON behalf of Tavistock Musical Theatre Company I would like to offer further support to the Wharf in its search for enlarged premises, more specifically the building in Canal Road.

As a major user of the Wharf's theatrical facilities we have on a number of occasions indeed been forced to extend our dressing room facilities to include the cafe and offices. With a cast of around 50 for this year's production of 'Mack and Mabel' we will again be most thankful to the Wharf management for allowing us to take over virtually the entire Wharf accommodation.

With a minimal amount of support from the local council the Wharf has done a brilliant and professional job in catering for all kinds of entertainment from regular cinema showings (very often to minimal audiences) to the hugely popular local bands and cover group performances.

Tavistock Musical Theatre Company has been presenting top quality musicals for over 50 years without any assistance whatsoever in the nature of local authority grants or subsidies.

Encouraged by the annually advertised surplus funds available for local arts projects, we have on a few occasions applied for assistance but have been turned down, presumably on the basis that our productions have been too successful! Obviously, we were not a suitably worthy arts project with loss making potential.

Our company applauds the Wharf for, like ourselves, presenting the best of popular entertainment in Tavistock while preserving a large degree of financial independence. We do hope that it will be possible to obtain some extended accommodation in the near future.

PS: For our impending and expensive production of 'Mack and Mabel' we have found it necessary to increase our ticket prices. In the circumstances we trust our loyal patrons will understand!
