FIREFIGHTERS in Yelverton are celebrating the arrival of new equipment which should keep them extra dry when tackling emergencies.

The crew are the first in the division to be issued with the wetsuits, which are 100 percent waterproof.

Sub Officer John German said: 'They have polar bear lining which will keep us absolutely dry which will be brilliant for flooding, for going in slurry pits on farms, anything like that — they're a hell of a piece of kit.

'They only come in two sizes though — large and extra large!'

Each of Yelverton's appliances will carry two of the special new suits.
