Staying safe in the water and online were among the topics as youngsters in West Devon learned key safety skills useful for everyday life and emergencies.
Sessions as part of the junior life skills programme organised by West Devon Borough Council included learning about cyber safety with Devon & Cornwall Police and staying safe around electricity with the National Grid.
RNLI volunteers gave practical demonstrations of their work and allowed the pupils to try out their safety equipment.
Dartmoor rangers also explained how the countryside could be protected and the importance of ensuring waste is disposed of properly to prevent fly tipping.
Events staged in Tavistock and Okehampton for Year 6 pupils from West Devon schools aimed to show them how to navigate real-life situations.
Cllr Jane Elliott, borough council member for health and community wellbeing, said: “We’re really proud to work with our partners on this important initiative. Pupils received valuable guidance on a range of topics, including CPR, protecting our landscapes, cyber safety and much more. Sessions like these are fantastic for young people, giving them the knowledge and confidence to develop essential life skills that will benefit them both now and in the future."
Kere Ascot, a teacher at Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School, said: “The children experienced different scenarios and from various agencies on how to keep safe in real life. It’s really important for us as schools because it gets all the agencies in one place and it’s really beneficial.”
Organisations involved included the National Grid, Devon & Cornwall Police, Dartmoor rangers, EE, Woodside Animal Sanctuary, Great Western Railway, Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, the Royal Live Saving Society UK, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and the RNLI.
