A former soldier, brought up in Cornwall, is marking National Author’s Day at Tavistock Library when he will sign books and talk about his writing career.
Charles Cordell will be talking about writing historical fiction and his latest book ‘Divided Kingdom book 2 – The Keys of Hell and Death’.
He will describe his journey from Army to author and about writing historical fiction set in the period of the English Civil War.
The talk will discuss how and why 17th century historical fiction can feel so relevant today. A question and answer session and a booksigning will follow the talk.
Charles Cordell is the author of English Civil War historical fiction series Divided Kingdom.
His writing has received praise and reviews from The Times and admirers of his writing include Ben Kane (bestselling author), David Gilman (award winning author) and Professor Ronald Hutton CBE (TV historian).
National Author’s Day celebrates literature and storytelling. It is a day to visit readers’ local library, start a new book or post a review for an old favourite.
A library spokesman said: “Join Charles Cordell at Tavistock Library to be part of the story. To join this author talk and celebrate National Author’s Day at Tavistock Library, please check details on the Libraries Unlimited events page. If you can, come along and join the debate.”
The event is at Tavistock Library, The Quay, Plymouth Road, PL19 8AB, on Friday, October 30, 2pm-3.30 pm. Booking is available at this website: https://charlescordell.com/event/national-authors-day-tavistock/
If you can’t make this event, copies of Charles Cordell’s books are available to borrow from libraries, including Tavistock Library. They are also stocked at independent bookshops, including Tavistock’s own indie Book Stop.
