The first ever Eden Project Marathon in St Austell, Cornwall earlier this month attracted more than 2,000 runners for a marathon, half marathon and fun run.

Among those taking part were those from Tavistock Athletic Club, Bere Alston Trekkers and Okehanpton Running Club.

The marathon and the half were both tough challenges, set mostly off-road on clay trails and good paths, taking a winding figure of eight route through some spectacular mining heritage areas not normally open to the public.

Runners should have had spectacular views across mid-Cornwall, but the weather proved inclement, with driving misty rain and strong winds being the order of the day.

Tavistock's Rob Kirby competed in the half-marathon and finished in 1.53.51.

Ray Bennett excelled in the marathon, winning his 70+ age-group in 4.33.23. Pete Bazley ran strongly to finish in 3.56.13 and 75th place, and Adam Holland returned from injury to finish 13th, in 3.20.22.
