MRS L Slade is campaigning against the newly erected street lights in Church Road, Highampton (Letters April 25). Last year she was campaigning for the arrival of the Cfar criminal rehabilitation centre at Burdon Grange. (Letters July 5, 2001).

I suggest that if Cfar's planning application, strongly supported by Mrs Slade, had been unsuccessful, there would have been no need of the street lights at all.

I suggest Mrs. Slade learns to live with these lights for the sake of her neighbours who were opposed to Cfar's move and who will now feel safer.

Incidentally, we in the hamlet of Odham, who have been sentenced by West Devon Borough Council to have to live with these criminals, would be delighted if the council installed and operated streetlights at our end of Burdon Lane.

Instead, several of us are setting up and running security lighting at our own considerable expense.
