WITH the weather atrocious, the ladies from Okehampton Golf Club were soaked before reaching the first green, which was flooded most of the morning along with several others.
It was a great shame that it had to rain so hard on the day of the Western Morning News Cup, which Okehampton were defending for the fifth consecutive year at Holsworthy Golf Course.
The weather cleared up during the afternoon and this was when the winning team Saunton played.
But Okehampton's lady captain Liz Slee said: 'It's probably just as well someone else won for a change — we'll just have to reclaim it next year!'
The September par competition was also hit by a thunderstorm, though play did restart and the event stood. It was won by Cherry James with -4, second was Jenni Hutchinson -4 on the back nine, and third was Mo Holland.
The September additional stableford was a victim of the weather and was cancelled.
