OKEHAMPTON produced an entertaining brand of fast running rugby in a clinical six-try demolition of league rivals Wellington.

The home side dominated territory and possession for much of the first half and were rewarded when Arnie Searle breached the Wellington defence following some good forward play to open the scoring.

Further first half points followed when Greg Vick threw a long miss pass to Graham Sage, finding the left winger in space for a run in down the touch line. After a penalty conversion for the visitors the sides turned around at 12-3.

The second half scoring was opened when Bruce Griffith and Alister Mason combined well with a series of quick passes, cutting through the Wellington defence. Griffith then sent the fullback the wrong way before an immaculate dive over the Wellington.

Searle collected a second try shortly after, joining the line at pace from full back and connecting with a long miss pass from Vick at flyhalf.

Steve Alford added his name to the scoresheet following a period of sustained pressure on the visitors line.

Good fast ruck ball o was created giving the Okehampton half backs the time and space to put Alford over.

In the last moments of the game when Sage intercepted a pass in the Okehampton 22 leaving a daunting 80m run in.

Support was at hand as the winger tired in the form of man of the match Alford, who drew the covering Wellington defence and fed Dave Bickle for the try.

The win moves Okehampton further up the western counties league, securing them in the top half of the table for the first time since early November.

OKEHAMPTON Second XV took on OPMs and beat them 17-13, Gary Carey clinching the match on the day of his engagement party.

THE Okes rounded off a good weekend for the club, which saw all three senior teams win.

In the first half it was very close. That was until five minutes from the end when some missed tackles saw Morton's no 8 Steve Alford run in from 30 yards out.

In the second half, playing down the steep slope, the Okes kept Moreton pinned in their 22.

Moreton defended well but as they began to tire they gave more and more penalties away and had it not been a friendly game one or more would have been yellow-carded.

It was from one of these numerous penalties that the Acorns scrum half, Perry Vallance, took a quick tap and twisted and turned to go over the line for a good try.

In the last 10 minutes Okehampton dominated and stand-off Adam Holliday slotted two fine penalties to see the Okes run out worthy winners.
