LOCAL primary schools from in and around Tavistock met last week to compete in a variety of athletic events all hoping to win the opportunity to go forward to compete against North Devon next year.

St Andrew's took first blood almost immediately with  first places to Jerry Hancock (year six) and Max Wright (year five) for their outstanding long jumps and Molly Scott (year five) for her tremendous performance in the chest push.

Every member of the team took at least one first place position with everyone of the six combinations of lap races being won by both the girl and boys team. Eleanor and Lily Mills ran a brilliant six lap relay timing their sprint for the line perfectly.

George Hillson was the hero of the day stepping up to take on a sick team members events as well as his own which had him rushing all over the arena.

The St Andrew's squad all worked well together supporting each other throughout their events and deserved their overall first place win.
