Okehampton ladies 8

Bodmin ladies 2

AN early goal for Oke's Viv Weatherington was soon countered when Bodmin equalised. Bodmin defended in numbers Bodmin denied Okehampton a straight shot at goal and Okehampton's attackers appeared frustrated. However eventually Jo Moppett made it 2-1 to Okehampton.

In the second half Oke started the second half with more panache, style and speed and Moppett scored her second. Excellent passing from the entire team paid off and Bodmin found it hard to counter Okehampton's numerous attacks.

A penalty corner to Oke saw Jane Jones confuse the opposition by passing the ball around the D before it was slotted into the net. Alex Collins, Amanda Sim and Sarah Jones performed excellently in midfield while centre marker Carol Taylor closed down any attacks that broke through midfield as did Sandy Douglas and Netty Collett.

Okehampton's excellent teamwork produced another four goals, with Kim Davies and Lesley Bingham again passing the ball in the D allowing both of them to score. Bodmin pulled one back but this was a comprehensive win for the Columbines.

Okehampton player of the match was Lesley Bingham.

Plym Valley ladies

FROM the start Okehampton ladies played steady good hockey.   Plym showed themselves to be quick on the ball and played with such verve and gusto that the umpires had to calm the action down on more than one occasion.

The hardworking home defence found themselves in some confusion as Plym's attack used the width of the pitch to good effect. On occasions there were several defenders in danger of clashing in their attempts to keep the speedy attacks under control.  Good communications and close marking from Oke steadied the pace and none of Plym's attacks led to goals.  Carol Taylor, Sandy Douglas and player of the match Netty Collette worked hard and determinedly to great effect.

Kim Davey used her speed and agility to give Okehampton the lead.  A good pass through from Sandy Douglas was picked up by Viv Weatherington, crossed to Kim who passed several defenders at a terrific pace and then slipped the ball into the circle for Jo Moppett to edge it past the goalie.

The second half became more of a slog with both sides fighting to get the advantage but not really finding the space to achieve it.

Jo Moppett, closely marked, had little room to manoeuvre, but got within inches of scoring on more than one occasion. Kim Davey lifted the ball into the goal but it was disallowed as too high.   Viv Weatherington led some very dangerous attacks from the left wing but all was to no avail. Similarly Okehampton's defence consistently foiled the wave upon wave of attacks with goalie Sophie Whiteley making several classy saves.
