Tavistock 19

Teignmouth 7

WITH the odds stacked firmly against the home side, Tavistock came out determined to demonstrate to the visitors that there is no such thing as an easy game at Sandy Park.

Even against the slope the Tavistock pack dominated the lineouts and scrums. After a rolling maul spearheaded by the front row, No 8 Andy Griffiths picked up from the base and rolled over for the first points of the game. Paul Allen converted.

Teignmouth's feathers were well and truly ruffled by this stage, however, they replied instantly with a score and conversion.

From the restart the Tavistock forwards massacred the opposition, to the extent where it would have been easier for the physio to put a shirt on her back rather than see to the walking wounded.

The second score arrived after some exquisite positional play from Paul Allen, culminating in another forwards romp towards the clubhouse corner. After a number of phases involving exhilarating support play from the back row, Andy Hunt pierced Teignmouth's defence and went over with three in tow. Allen again converted.

Eventually the pressure got the better of the visitors, resulting in a yellow card and a number of handling mistakes. The final nail in the coffin was hammered in by Barney Dunstan intercepting a poor pass midfield leaving the Teignmouth backs stranded.

This one will go down in the history books entitled: 'Teignmouth, welcome to Devon 1!'
