THE talented Stithians Ladies' Choir is returning to Hatherleigh Methodist Church for a concert on Saturday.
The choir was formed in 1966 by the late Sidney Bowden who was the organist and choir master at Penmennor Methodist Church, Stithians, who had already formed a male choir in the village some years earlier.
The ladies' choir consisted of church choir members together with ladies from the surrounding district — some founder members are still singing with the choir to this day.
The choir has maintained high standards through regularly competing in music festivals and has 34 members.
It has a wide repertoire and on a visit to Hatherleigh members are also bringing the Glee Singers, a group of 12 men who are mostly members of other male voice choirs in Cornwall. Like the ladies' choir, they sing a wide variety of music.
Though entry is free, donations are invited for chapel upkeep.
Cindy Squire, concert organiser, said: 'We try to hold two concerts every year and aim to appeal to a wide audience. Nearly two years ago we held a concert by the ladies from Stithians.
'We are just delighted that they are able to sing for us again – and this time they are bringing a male choir, two for the price of one!
'We don't charge for our concerts but simply ask for a donation.
'This time it's for chapel upkeep. In the past we have raised money for ME Support, cancer and Children in Need to name just a few.
'Please come and enjoy an amazing, tightly rehearsed choir. Welcome the spring with a song and a smile.'
The concert in the church starts at 7.30pm with refreshments served afterwards.
