CHURCHES in and around Okehampton are inviting people to come ?back to church? this Sunday as part of a national initiative to encourage people to rediscover the roots of their faith. Back to Church Sunday is an annual national event. In Okehampton it is supported by all the denominations which make up Christians Together. Rector of Okehampton the Rev Stephen Cook said: ?If you move house or change jobs or your kids start playing sport on a Sunday or something, it is easy to lose touch. Often, people have every intention of coming back one day but as time passes it seems to get harder. This is a simple encouragement to come back, even if it is just once to see what has changed. ?Belonging to a church has so much to offer, and we want to put out the message that we are still here and if you want to come you are most welcome. The different churches are each doing their own thing, but we will all be focussing on making people feel at home and at ease.? Christians Together in Okehampton (CTIO) is delivering an invitation to every house in the town, giving details of local services. Chair of CTIO Pastor David Waters said: ?People sometimes want to come but are afraid they might not be welcome. We want to say, ?You are welcome anytime, but especially this week?. Christians Together is working hard to show our common faith and united purpose.? If anyone does not receive a card and would like to know details of local church services they can phone Mr Cook on 01837 659297.
