THE Ockment River Improvement Group teamed up with local conservation group STOC last Friday to begin the first phase of work under the West Bridge in Okehampton. The group?s aim is to restore the weir and reinstate the leat. For the first phase of work, a team of around a dozen volunteers spent last Friday morning clearing the river of rubbish and debris. The group have secured around £17,000 for some initial work from ROCK-et ? an aggregate tax funding stream ? and are hoping to get further funding to continue enhancement works.
