A YOUNG Okehampton woman and her faithful friend wowed judges to win their class in the dog show. Twenty-three-year-old Amy Balch and her two-year-old weimarana Macey took to the ring to impress the judges, who awarded the pedigree first in her class and best of breed. Amy has been showing dogs for ten years and has been attending shows since she was three. 'I used to show ponies and my grandparents used to have weimaranas and I handled them. I have been showing Macey since she was six months old. She is a bit of a princess — she's just like a human — she's my best friend.' Macey is no stranger to winning, as she won second at Crufts in the yearling bitch this year. Amy, a fashion designer for Amy Balch Originals, said it didn't take too much work to get Macey looking good for shows. She's exercised regularly and is on a good diet. 'Weimaranas are quite low maintenance dogs really. I just had to clip her nails and that was about it.'
