Okehampton Columbines 4
Totnes 3
THIS was Okehampton's first league fixture after Plymouth withdrew last week.
Okehampton distributed the ball well in the first half and played some good hockey. They were powerful going forward and went ahead when a wide ball to the left found Viv Weatherington in space. She had plenty of time to strike past the goalkeeper.
Elaine Morgan kept the defence well organised and Jane Jones worked tirelessly in midfield to keep any Totnes attack at bay.
Okehampton pressed forward relentlessly and went two ahead when a loose ball in the circle was hit into the corner of Totnes' goal.
Kelly Cooper had a superb solo effort just before half-time to score Okehampton's third.
Columbines started the second half well when a cross into the circle fell for Weatherington to deflect off her stick to score her hat-trick.
Okehampton conceded a goal and were thrown into defence, Sharon Parsons in goal made a number of saves but when two controversial goals were given to Totnes Columbines were suddenly in danger of losing their three points.
With the welcome support of a number of their vice-presidents on the sidelines, Okehampton managed to hang on for their first league win with Jane Jones receiving the player of the match accolade.
This week Okehampton are at home in the league against St Agnes from Cornwall.
