Earlier, Belstone had struggled to reach 27 for four in the 14th over in the face of accurate bowling from openers Mike Freeman and Paul McAdam.

Phil Woods (14) began the recovery with some big leg-side pulls before he became the second victim of some lightning stumping work by keeper John Wollington when the score was 56.

Chris Walpole, who took 15 minutes to get off the mark, then began to play more fluently in a fruitful partnership of 63 for the sixth wicket with Mick Cowley (10) before they were both out with the score at 119, Walpole (52) having hit seven fours during a stay at the crease of 81 minutes.

The innings ended at 136 all out after 43.3 overs. In the 40 minutes of play possible after tea Old Suttonians reached 30 for the loss of three wickets, first change Chris Gomersall clean bowling two batsmen in his first two maiden overs.

Two away games for Belstone this weekend, on Saturday at Manaton for their first South Devon League match of the season, and on Sunday at Bovey Tracey.
