AS partners in the refurbishment of Tavistock Bus Station, Devon County Council and West Devon Borough Council would like to respond to the letter published on July 7, from Les Kingswell.
The previous design of the bus station made it difficult for buses to use all of the six stands. When it became necessary to do major work to replace the surface, it was agreed that the layout would be modified. This was to make it easier for the larger buses now being operated to use each of the five new stands, and the change also gives them more room for reversing out.
It is recognised that there are issues for community transport vehicles bringing people to and from the Anchorage Centre, but this seems to relate to manoeuvring in the car park at the front of the centre, and the use of the car park by taxi drivers waiting to pick up passengers. The two councils are arranging meetings with Tavistock Area Support Services and other community bus operators to discuss these issues, and it is hoped that this will allow the concerns expressed by Mr Kingswell to be resolved.
