IF you are one of the many people that use the Granite Way regularly, you will have noticed the work that has been done over the past few months to take the trail back to its original width. The work has been organised and carried out by volunteers from Sustrans, Tavistock Wheelers and community pay-back teams with funding from Cllr Kevin Ball and Okehampton United Charities. There is still work to be done and this will be carried out over the next few months. With the opening of Gem Bridge at Tavistock, the 'missing' section at Bridestowe station earlier this year and the removal of several gates, many more families and also wheel-chair users are using the now eight and a half mile off-road tarmac route from Okehampton station to Lydford. Joined of course by many more long distance walkers and cyclists as part of the National Cycle Network trail from Ilfracoome to Plymouth, some of them from the continent as this is part of several international cycle routes. We will do our best to keep this trail open for as long as possible for the benefit of both local people and visitors. Alan Finch Sustrans Rangers co-ordinator Folly Gate Okehampton.
