I AM writing to urge readers to fight for the world class rail links demanded by the Western Morning News, Plymouth Herald and various business leaders.
No single track options — the Waterloo line says it all.
No options that turn Exeter and Plymouth stations into terminus operations — they are very slow.
The three-hour Plymouth service must be a non-negotiable key requirement.
The solution must serve the whole of the southwest peninsula beyond Exeter.
Torbay and Newton Abbot must not be crucified.
We need to have a modern, fit for purpose rail infrastructure.
May I suggest the supporters of the single track option round Dartmoor take a trip on my favourite railway journey, from St Pancras to Bourg St Maurice in the French alps.
You race down to Chambery on high speed lines, come to grinding halt at Chambery, you then crawl along before waiting outside Albertville while a train comes out in the opposite direction. You wait in Albertville station while the driver goes to the other end of the train. You then crawl along the single track line, stopping to let other trains pass. It is stunningly beautiful but you are on your way for a week skiing, not trying to run a modern business in the 21st century.

I PROMISE this will be my last letter on the subject of rail links!
I've read Dorothy Kirk's letter three times and still cannot decide if she is pro or anti the proposed Tavistock/Bere Alston link?
However, when I read your lead story this week about all the social services cutbacks in an attempt to save £110-million in the next four years I cannot reconcile how the same county council will spend upwards of £25-million on an extremely doubtful rail 'project'.
Like HS2, is this an ego trip for our elected representatives. Please remember this when next voting locally or nationally, and for sure DO vote and not be one of the can't be bothered brigade.
