If this is true, then surely it is time to look at the possibilities of continuing on to Okehampton, which of course is still connected to the main network, thus not only providing an alternative main line but also a proper service to this part of Devon?
It would appear that as most if not all the existing formation is still intact this could be achieved with a minimum of compulsory purchase of any parts that have been sold.
As this Government is determined to build a vast amount of new houses in Devon, there must be a case for providing money for a decent rail service, especially as the present service to Devon and Cornwall are reliant on the sea wall at Dawlish not collapsing, because if (or when) it does, the West Country has no railway.
Perhaps some of our councillors would like to air their views on this subject via your excellent paper?
