THE citizens of Tavistock for the most part don't want

parking meters and so they should not be imposed on the

town as another form of revenue raising.

We all know the reasons why this was tried on but let

no-one be lulled into a false sense of security. We may

have won the battle but the war is still to be won.

These meters are sitting in a store just waiting to be

put out when the spurious consultation period has been

completed. Then they will be put in without a doubt and

before the Government has decreed that this sort of thing

is up to local people. There is information about already to

this effect.

So I wish to know why:

a) Meters were purchased to the tune of £100,000

when there had been no consultation.

b) How much the costs would/will be to install these

meters?

c) How they would have been attended. In order to

be effective they must be attended at least once an hour.

And since there was a proposal to mount 44 in the town

this is a considerable undertaking.

d) The cost of this attendant. Per annum.

e) The proposal was for 30 minutes free. This is

simply stupid as by the time you have paid and visited one

shop your time is up. Who checks that you have left within

your 30 minutes?

f) To despoil this historic market town with such

monstrosities is vandalism of the worst sort.

g) I understand that the Government wishes local

people to make their own decisions on such matters

without interference from the next tier of government.

Parking comes under this heading.

I suggest that the costs already incurred be borne by

the members of the so called cabinet themselves, rather

than wasting my exorbitant council taxes in this manner.
