Carslberg South Western League Newquay 1 Callington Town 2 TOWN dominated the first half and put in a display described as their best 45 minutes of football this season. It was no surprise when they took a tenth minute lead. It was a teenage production as Lee Crook pounced on a defensive error to feed Dan Discombe and the youngster fired home his first senior goal to his obvious delight. Two minutes before the break it was another player not yet in his 20s who doubled the advantage for the visitors when Lee Blatchford, having re-signed from Torrington, capitalised on more defensive inactivity from the home side to score from 12 yards out. Newquay were gifted a goal on 67 minutes when Squires was adjudged to have been pulled back in the area and he stepped up to beat the Town keeper to set up a nervy last quarter of the game. Callington held on for their fifth victory of the season that lifts them three points clear of Torpoint, who lost at home to Falmouth. Town have eight matches to go until the end of the season starting with a local derby against Tavistock at Ginsters Marshfield Parc on Saturday. Bodmin Trophies Duchy League division 2 Roseland 1 Callington Town 0 DESPITE the nine places separating these two sides, this was billed as a promotion battle and it was the home side who gained revenge for a same scoreline defeat at Callington last month to move within four points of leaders Edgecumbe. For Callington, it was a disappointing start for a hectic period of games in April which sees the Town play 10 games in 25 days. The pitch at St Mawes was not in the best shape, after the home side switched from their normal home Veryan due to the recent wet weather. Roseland dealt with the conditions better with the majority of the play for much of this game. To their credit, Callington were never totally out of it and but for some better finishing and a better run of the ball, might have embarrassed their hosts. The only goal of the game came in the 35th minute when Justin Trebilcock capitalised on a defensive and offside beating cross that eluded the Callington back line for him to beat stand in keeper Darren Benfield. l Fixtures ?
