WEIR Quay Sailing Club held their last sailing event of 2001 on Boxing Day with a dinghy race followed by presentation of prizes for the year's events.

The Boxing Day race was held in bright conditions with a light north-westerly wind continuing throughout. Eight boats competed over three laps on a figure-of-eight course on the River Tamar adjacent to the club's headquarters.

After competitive racing the event was won by Andy Houghton in Wayfarer 'Wopit' in 32 minutes 45 seconds, followed closely by John Tomlinson in Wayfarer 'Final Chance' in 32 minutes 49 seconds, Daniel Newcombe in Laser 'Radial' third in a time of 33 minutes and 6 seconds.

The slow handicap was won by Ben Houghton in Mirror 'Whose Blue' in a time of 38 minutes 50 seconds, followed by Tony Newman in Mirror 'Up and Under' in a time of 48 minutes 13 seconds.
