A DAY of fundraising at the Exeter Arms, Okehampton, raised more than £2,600 for the charity Headway Devon. It was organised by Kerry Hampson, of Okehampton, who works at the Exeter Arms ? Headway Devon provides vital support for her son Cameron, who suffers from a rare brain condition compounded by a further brain condition he developed after falling from a window. Kerry said: ?The day was excellent and went really, really well. It was brilliant fun. ?I would like to thank everyone who took part and donated money for Headway Devon. I?d especially like to thank Lisa and Jody for all their hard work and extend a big thank you to Mr P.? The day?s events included a sponsored silence where customers had to contribute £1 every time they spoke ? this raised £70. This was followed by a waxing session where legs, armpits, chests and backs were all exposed to waxing strips ? it raised more than £900. The day concluded with an auction that included a variety of lots. An original ?Wonka? chocolate bar from the film ?Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? sold for £80 and, currently, a shield and a spear from the film Gladiator is on the internet auction site E-Bay for a minimum bid of £600. Kerry added: ?i was really quite touched by the whole day. Everyone was willing to take part and did a fantastic job. It is hugely appreciated.?
