CHILDREN from Mary Tavy and Brentor Community Primary School have created a colourful banner to encourage people to buy to more locally-produced food.

The banner entitled ?Love Your Local Food? was made by class one pupils and the children who attend the school sewing club and will be used by West DEN?s Good Food Project to promote local, healthy and organic food in West Devon.

Good Food project manager Kate Wright said: ?We are very grateful to the children and the teachers for all their talent and hard work in making this beautiful banner.

?It will be a fantastic way of getting our message across - that locally-produced food is good for people and good for the environment.?

The banner will be on display at the Tavistock Farmers Market on St Valentine?s Day where the good food project will be hosting three cookery demonstrations by local chef Malcolm Morrison.

Malcolm, who worked at top hotels in the South West and now runs local firm Hoggs Bottom Garden Delights, a business making and selling the finest vinegars, oils and preserves, will be cooking up three delicious Valentine?s treats made with local ingredients, many of them donated by stallholders at the farmers market.

There will also be a quiz competition for children and adults to win a hamper of local food, which involves answering clues from the produce sold on the market stalls.

The Good Food Project is National Lottery funded and is also supported by Devon Food Links and the Goldsmith Foundation.
