A PUBLIC presentation of plans to build a £400,000 watersports centre at Weir Quay will be held in Bere Alston next month.

The Weir Quay Community Watersports Hub Club has now submitted an initial planning application for the development of shore-based facilities at Weir Quay.

This covers the initial phases of the project involving site access, some levelling of the site allowing for dinghy and car parking and the construction of a boatshed.

The planning application incorporates a comprehensive set of documents including a full environmental statement, land survey reports and landscape plans.

The facilities will provide a much needed base for both the Tamar and Tavy Gig Club and the Weir Quay Sailing Club.

A spokesperson for the Hub Club said: 'The provision of these facilities has attracted a significant level of local interest, and as part of its overall commitment to keep local people fully informed of all developments, the Hub Club will be holding a public presentation at 7.30 pm on Thursday August 4.

'This will be held at the Bere Alston Bowling Club and will include display details of the planning application as well as a short presentation and question and answer session.

'Full details of the planning application will be available.'

Details of the planning application will be on display at the Bowling Club from 7.30pm with a short presentation at 8 pm.

The presentation will also include an overview of the Hub Club's long term plans for site.

The spokesman added: 'All local residents and interested parties are invited to attend the presentation to gain a full understanding of what is being planned as part of this exciting proposal.'

Earlier this summer, the Hub Club announced it had gained charity status, and that it had reached its funding target for phase one of the project, that of buying the site at Weir Quay.

The organisation's website also went live recently.
