MEMBERS of the Lions Club of Tavistock were forced to cancel their Carnival Fun Day in the Meadows last weekend due to the waterlogged state of the ground.

Keith Penney, the event organiser, said that even though the forecast for the Sunday was good, the amount of vehicles that would be involved in bringing equipment into the Meadows would have done considerable damage and he felt it was the right decision to cancel, even though it would probably disappoint a large number of people.

Many of the additional activities for this year had an Olympic theme so the club will be giving some thought to staging the event later in the year — weather permitting.
