CHAGFORD firefighters tackled a number of small fires at Gidleigh woods on Tuesday.

Chagford firefighter Kevin Coombe said the fire service?s advice to the public was to take great care during dry periods when woodland fires could start easily.

One appliance from Chagford attended the woods at around 1pm on Tuesday and was assisted at the scene by a ranger vehicle from Bovey Tracey.

A number of fires had sprung up in different parts of the woods, but all were extinguished within a couple of hours.

l Power cables at Bondleigh were brought down on Saturday by a branch which fell from a tree.

North Tawton firefighters were called to the scene after the cables started a small fire in an adjoining allotment plot, but the blaze was quickly extinguished.
