POLICE have appealed for bicycle owners to not make their bikes an easy target for thieves, following a spate of cycle thefts in Okehampton in the last fortnight.
PC Dave Woodland said a number of bikes had been reported stolen in various locations around Okehampton in the past two weeks ?three in the Highland View area and another from outside the White Hart Hotel. Two of the bikes have since been recovered.
PC Woodland advised people to use a padlock chain if they were leaving their bike anywhere, and warned owners not to leave their bikes unattended in their gardens but to always store them somewhere secure.
PC Woodland said owners should also make a note of the frame number of their bike to help police trace it, in the event of it being stolen.
