FARMERS have been advised to keep a watchful eye around their properties and make sure outbuildings are secure after a recent suspicious barn fire. Devon Fire and Rescue Service say other measures that could be considered include the installation of passive infra-red lighting or even temporary closed circuit television cameras. Station officer Bill Harvison, fire investigation team coordinator, said: ?The farmer involved has lost a lot of valuable equipment in this fire. But more importantly, deliberate fires have the potential to harm firefighters, innocent bystanders or the people setting fires themselves.? Devon Fire and Rescue Service say they always seek to prosecute deliberate firesetters. Arson can carry a sentence of up to life imprisonment with recent convictions from three to five years. If anyone has any information about deliberate fires, no matter how big or small, in their local area they should telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
