AN Okehampton man has successfully finished a marathon 290-mile walk for charity, having trudged from Boston in East Anglia to Abbotsbury in Dorset. Brian Goode, 67, regularly walks with Okehampton Ramblers and has completed several long walks for charity. His latest trip took him 20 days, and so far, has raised £350 for Macmillan Nurses. Brian said: ?The first three days were a bit hard going ? I did 19 miles on the first day, then 21.5 the second and more than 16 on the third, so I felt a bit rough and as I?m a diabetic, I had to be a bit careful.? Brian also came down with a chest infection which did not help matters, but he said a dose of medicine soon had him back on track and the rest of the trip went ?really well? with hardly any rain to dampen the spirits. ?That was apart from when I got to the Abbotsbury fingerpost ? the skies opened up and it got really, really wet ? I more or less swam the last half mile into Abbotsbury!? said Brian. He said he was delighted to have raised so much money for the Macmillan Nurses ? but there were still sponsorship forms in the Ockment Centre and Sweet Success in Okehampton if anyone else still wished to add to the total.
