WALKS held at the weekend, which started out from the Plume of Feathers pub in Princetown, helped raise money for the Derriford Children's Cancer Service. The 'Dartmoor Challenge, as it was called, consisted of three walks — three of 15 miles and one of 10 mile.

Steve Parker has been organising such events for children's cancer charities since 1991 and so far has raised more than £100,000.

Wendy Stones, who took part in the 10 mile walk to Dartmeet on Sunday, said: 'It was absolutely brilliant. We had gorgeous weather, much better than last year when it rained — it was a real pleasure. These walks are so well organised and Steve has done such a tremendous job.'
