A SPONSORED walk organised by the Rotary Club of Okehampton has raised £2,000 for charities preserving the safety of walkers and visitors to Dartmoor.

On September 14, the club held its first Autumn Challenge OK charity walk. The walk is to become an annual event with a different route each year.

This year's inaugural walk was from Okehampton to Bellever, taking in a 14 and a half mile walk over the high moor. Around 40 walkers took part, and the Rotary Club managed to raise £2,000 to be split between the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team, and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

The 2014 walk is being planned for September 20 and will start and finish on the west side of the moor, and will be of a similar distance.

Keen walkers are asked to mark the date on their calendar and keep their eyes peeled for information in the New Year.
