PEOPLE can discover more about the Tamar Valley of Outstanding Natural Beauty by joining one of the guided walks or events this month.

Local conservationist and botanist Martin Summers is leading two bat evenings ? one at Lockeridge Farm, Bere Alston this Saturday at 6.30pm and the other at Capel Tor near Horsebridge on September 17.

Both events are suitable for children over seven who may get the opportunity to see owls and glow worms but it is recommended they bring a torch. Refreshments will be provided.

If your interest lies in archaeology, join Colin Buck this Sunday between 1pm and 5pm for a walk around Devon Great Consols in Gulworthy where he will be visiting Wheal Josiah and Wheal Anna Maria.

The rough terrain makes this walk unsuitable for pushchairs. Dogs on leads are welcome.

A scenic walk on the Bere Peninsula will incorporate a ride on the Tamar Valley Line Train on September 26 starting at 11.30am. There will be a good opportunity to walk some of the Tamar Valley Discovery Trail and trace the changing landscape of the valley from its enclosed middle section to the wide expanses of the estuary.

All events are free of charge and numbers are restricted so booking is essential.

Stout walking boots and sensible/warm clothing are recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
