THERE is just time left for residents in Tavistock to have their say on the production of a prominent public work of art, to be produced to commemorate the 900th anniversary of the granting of the town?s market charter. Four local artists have submitted their ideas, the winning one being picked by public vote. The concepts include a ceramic ?tree of life?, a ?goose-girl? weathervane, a bronze goose sculpture or a piece of community art using recycled materials, to be erected inside or outside the pannier market. Each concept is displayed in the foyer of Tavistock Library, where voting slips may be filled in and posted into a ballot box. Chief librarian Moira Andrews, events co-ordinator of the charter group organising this year?s celebrations, said: ?Voting is already going really well and we?ve already had to reprint a load more voting slips ? there?s been a great response so far.? Voting will close tomorrow (Friday) evening, after which the votes will be counted, the winning artist informed and work can be started on the project.
