I WOULD draw your attention to the lack of sufficient advertising of the election held on August 22, resulting in the deplorable voting figures obtained.
I would also suggest that the decision not to declare the election by means of voting cards to other than the postal voters has resulted in the possible disfranchising of those so affected.
Was this decision legal?
Had I not received notification by leaflet late on the day, I would have been so affected.
We have a democratic right to vote, obtained for us by suffering and death in the past.
If the decision was taken on financial grounds, then surely many more public displays of the coming election would have been desirable, for example, on the lamp posts throughout the town as many other organisations regularly undertake.
