VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help out at this year's Devon Youth Games, being held in Okehampton on Saturday June 30. It is Devon's biggest junior sporting event of the year with more than 1,000 children aged from 8 to16 attending from across the county. West Devon Borough Council is hosting the annual festival which involves a variety of events including aquathlon (swimming/running), athletics, badminton, cricket, volleyball, hockey, tag rugby, tennis, netball, street sports, squash and gymnastics. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks, including setting up pitches and equipment, helping to co-ordinate events, car park marshals and sport marshals for such events as the aquathlon. The games will take place in Simmons Park using facilities at Okehampton College, Parklands Leisure Centre, Okehampton Tennis Courts and the Astroturf pitch. Tammy Messenger, West Devon's sports development officer, who is co-ordinating the event, said she would be delighted to hear from anyone who could help out.
