AS part of Volunteers Week 2017, from June 1 to 7, a local charity is asking for volunteers to come forward with any spare time they may have to help in Tavistock’s pop-up charity Christmas card shop.
Cards for Good Causes, the UK’s largest multi-charity Christmas card organisation, needs a shop manager along with other volunteers to help in its seasonal shop which opens in October.
Cards for Good Causes could not operate its network of 300 seasonal shops across the UK without a team of around 6,000 volunteers. In the last ten years, volunteers have helped raise more than £40-million for local and national good causes.
The shop manager role is part time and could be done as a job share, making it ideal for someone looking for flexible hours. Managing a shop for Cards for Good Causes requires no special qualification or experience other than common sense and enthusiasm and is ideal for those who enjoy working with people and numbers.
Volunteers are also being sought to help with the general running of the shop. Anyone interested should be available from around mid-October until mid-December.
Chief executive of Cards for Good Causes Jeremy Lune said: ‘Our seasonal staff and volunteers are simply wonderful. They help us raise a huge amount of money for a wide range of charities. Taking on a role in one of our shops is ideal if you are interested in short-term volunteering. Perhaps you are retired or have a young family or perhaps you are a student or graduate looking for retail experience. We would like to hear from anyone who wants to be part of a friendly team that helps make a real difference to the charities we support.’
Cards for Good Causes represents more than 250 charities, including the 25 members of the 1959 Group of Charities, which includes Cancer Research UK, Barnardo’s, NSPCC, Alzheimier’s Society and RNLI, as well as a list of guest and local charities. In the past ten years charities have received more than £40-million from Cards for Good Causes, representing at least 70p in every pound out of which charities have had to pay for the production and distribution of their Christmas cards and any VAT.
The shops open in a variety of locations all over the UK, including churches, museums, tourist information centres, libraries and community centres. Full training will be provided. To find out more about volunteering, visit www.cardsforcharity.co.uk
